The cornerstone of the Prague Castle (Hradčany) was founded around the year 885. And thereby was established also Prague, sometimes called “City of 100 spires”. The most massive development of Prague was seen during the governance of King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV who rules the country in years 1346-1378. Prague becomes one of the most prosperous cities in Europe and the cultural capital of Central Europe.

From all spa towns near Pilsen I personally prefer Mariánské Lázně.

- It is easily accesable by train in 1 hour.

Famous Czech Republic spa city of Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně) is located in the Western part of the Czech Republic near the borders of Germany. A monument near Marienbad celebrates the fact that this place is the geographical centre of Europe. The spa itself is characteristic of the art nouveau style and was popular by Britain’s King Edward VII, Goethe, Chopin and Mark Twain.
Mariánské Lázně is a town with stunning architecture. Its forests and parks offers guests traditional spa treatment with a wide range of healing sources.
Most of 100 mineral springs in Mariánské Lázně are cold and help with treatment of diseases of kidneys, the urinary and respiratory tracts and locomotive system disorders.
Rabštejn nad Střelou: so close to Pilsen and so adventurous
Located above the Střela river is Rabštejn nad Střelou worth of visit because of the beautiful folk architecture, monumental hills (former slate quarries), romantic river valley, deep forests, army shalters reminding World War II. and not many tourists.
If you can afford more than one day trip, you can use the train from Pilsen to the nearby village, walk to Rabštejn and find the accommodation there.

Šumava: the trip from Pilsen for sport lovers
Do you like mountains? Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or Nordic walking? Then you can enjoy these activities in Pilsen region: in Šumava, Böhmerwald in German language. Šumava is the mountain on the Czech-German border which is popular because of a nice scenery and deep forests.
Šumava is beautiful not only in winter but during the whole year. Summer is very nice for mountain biking and walking, children and their parents appreciate numerous playgrounds. Many hotels are equipped by swimming pools and tennis courts.
In winter Šumava becomes a heaven for skiers. You will find here many trails for cross-country skiing and also downhill skiing. And what is perfect: Šumava is situated only 80 km far from Pilsen! It is easily accessible by car, bus or train.
Šumava is a paradise for ski lovers.
